Solitude (1992) 10'
By processing the saxophone electronically, the breath sound and key click can be effectively utilized. This is one of the attraction of the instrument. The tone is achieved by playing softly also expand with unexpected beauty. I wanted to compose a piece that is maximized the effect of these elements. From the sensitive tones of soft notes to dynamic breath sound, it was thrilling for me to observe the expansion of such richly changing tones.
The piece was composed between the fall of 1991 through winter of 1992. It was written for Ulrich Krieger and was first performed at Roulette in New York City, an evening of my works on November 14, 1992.
